Descendants of Capt. Arthur Fenner

Sterry Arnold Fenner

[b 8 Sept. 1845 at Johnston, RI; d 28 Nov. 1917 at Providence, RI] Sterry Arnold (“Sandy”) Fenner served in the Civil War as a private, 12th Infantry, Company C. On 20 Dec. 1876, he m 1st Susan L. Grouard [b 11 Apr 1855 at Fall River, MA; d 27 Feb 1882], daughter of John E. Grouard and Ann Drake. In 1880, he was listed as a liquor dealer. He m 2nd Harriet H. — [b 1861; d 1890]. He became a hotel owner, the Sandy Fenner Hotel, at some point between 1880 and 1900; it was located at 976 Park Street, Cranston, RI. Sterry and Harriet are buried in Pocasset Cemetery, Providence, RI. The hotel was demolished in 1934. Sterry evidently had no children, or at least none surviving infancy.
