Samuel Luther Fenner
[b 26 June 1877 at Henry Co., MO; d 9 Feb. 1917 in KS] Samuel Luther Fenner m Zoia Alice Jackson [b Mar. 1882 at Tallyrand, Wilson, KS; d 18 May 1969] on 17 June 1903. After Samuel’s death, Zoia married his brother, Newton.
S.L. Fenner, aged 36 years, an employee of the Standard Refinery, died Friday night, February 9, 1917, at 6:30 at the Wilson County Hospital of pneumonia, following an illness of about ten days. Mr. Fenner was taken sick suddenly Wednesday, January 31st, and on Thursday evening was removed to the hospital in a serious condition. He seemed to improve for a day or two but gradually grew worse until his death last Friday evening.
Samuel Luther Fenner was born in Henry County, Mo., June 26, 1877. He came to Kansas with his parents in 1899, locating in Lafontaine. A young man of wonderful physique he joined the United States Army February 12, 1900, enlisting in Troop B, Eighth Cavalry. After serving one year he was transferred to Troop B, Seventh Cavalry, in which he served three years.
Besides his wife, Mr. Fenner leaves two children, Leon, aged 12 years, and Estil, aged years, also his mother, Mrs. Matilda Saunders, of this city. His father, E.B. Fenner, lives at the Soldiers’ Home at Leavenworth. Four brothers also survive as follows: Ed Fenner of Jasper, Mo.; Sergeant N.C. Fenner, Troop I, Seventh Cavalry, now on the border, and James and D.E. Fenner of this city.
Mr. Fenner was a son-in-law of J.D. Jackson, having married Miss Zoia Jackson June 17, 1903. Sam Fenner was well liked by all who knew him. He was an honest, upright, and worthy young man, a member of the Christian church and W.O.W. lodge and a devoted husband and father. The bereaved wife, whose health is poorly, and fatherless children have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends.
