[b 13 Feb. 1930; d 23 Aug. 2008] Richard Lee Fenner m Roxana Vulgas [b 31 Mar. 1929; d 17 June 2020] on 10 Oct. 1951. Roxana is the daughter of Constentene Vulgeredes and Celia Tarlow. Constentene’s last name was changed to Vulgas when he came to the US as a young man; he was born in a set of islands near Greece. Roxana’s mother, Celia, was from Russia. Her family had been forced to flee from Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 because her family was Hebrew. The Bolshevik Revolution, or the Communist Revolution, was the beginning of the civil war in Russia that drove out the emperor, or czar, in favor of a communist government. Richard joined the Army at age eighteen and “...spent one year in the South Pacific during the period of occupation after the second world war. ...[He] returned home safely after combat, being lost in the jungles, and a killer typhoon.” He attributes his survival to the prayers of his parents and grandparents. Richard contributed the information about his lineage to this family tree.
