Gerald Edwin Fenner
[b 5 Oct. 1921 at Marion, Jasper, MO; d 4 Jan. 1945 at Ardennes, Belgium] Gerald Edwin Fenner m Myrtle Maxine Hartley [b 4 Aug. 1922 at Carthage, Jasper, MO; d 11 Jan. 1990 at Carthage, Jasper, MO], daughter of Walter Monroe Hartley and Ruth Hannah Dintaman, on 5 Apr. 1941 at Webb City, MO, officiated by a Justice of the Peace. Gerald and Maxine were both graduates of Carthage High School class of 1940. Before entering WWII, Gerald worked for the H.E. Williams Products Company, while Maxine worked for the Union Bus Terminal. In the war, Gerald was a Private First Class Medic with Company B, 110th Medical Battalion. He was with the 35th Infantry Division at the “Battle of the Bulge” in Ardennes, Belgium, when in the course of selflessly rescuing wounded soldiers he was killed by a mortar round. He was awarded a silver star posthumously on 20 February 1945. Maxine m 2nd Hubert Wilson Chrisman.
