[b 9 Apr. 1855 at South Woodstock, CT; d 8 Mar. 1905 at New Bedford, MA] It is quite likely Edward was named after Edward Cornelius Delevan [1793–1871], a wealthy businessman who devoted much of his fortune to the temperance movement. The pinnacle of his success was the prohibition of alcohol in the state of New York in 1855—the year Edward Delevan Fenner was born.

On 10 Feb. 1878, Edward Delevan Fenner m 1st Ada Angelia Grant [b 13 Feb. 1858 at Putnam, CT; d 1 Sept. 1883 at Putnam, CT], daughter of Waterman A. Grant and Sarah Ann Battey. After Ada’s death, Edward m 2nd Adeline Lee Allen [b 13 Jan. 1862 at Woodstock Valley, CT; d 29 Apr. 1945 at Norwalk, CT] on 27 February 1887 in Woodstock Valley, CT. She was the daughter of Edward Milton Allen and Mary Kenyon. Edward was a builder.

Edward Fenner, superintendent of construction for J.W. Bishop Co., of Providence, was accidentally killed today at the plant of the New Bedford Extractor Co. A heavy timber falling from the roof of the company’s building struck him on the head, killing him instantly.
Fall River Evening News (Fall River, MA), 8 Mar. 1905

The remains of Edward D. Fenner, who was instantly killed at the garbage plant yesterday morning, were conveyed to Providence Wednesday noon for burial. Brothers of the unfortunate man arrived in the city late yesterday afternoon and arranged with Undertaker Sherman, who had been given charge of the body, for the removal of the remains. Mr. Fenner was 51 years of age. But a few minutes prior to the accident Charles Wheelwright, a son of the manager of the plant, was in conversation with Mr. Fenner in the boiler room, and had left the building but a few minutes ahead of him. Just how the piece of heavy timber fell from the roof no one has yet been able to explain.

Fenner of this city, who was instantly killed in New Bedford, Mass., by a falling timber, was held yesterday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the residence of James B. Tatem on Grove Street. Rev. E.F. Jones of Providence, a former pastor here, officiated.
