Calphurnia Catherine Fenner
[b 31 Oct. 1826 near Jamestown, Chautauqua Co., NY; d 8 July 1889 at Manitowoc, WI] Calphurnia Catherine Fenner m Calvin Cole Barnes [b
19 June 1823 at Chautauqua, NY; d 15 Aug. 1893 at Charlevoix, MI], son of James Barnes and Sally Cole, on 18 Aug. 1846. After marrying, they moved to Naperville, IL, then Waukesha, WI, around 1855. During the Civil War, Calvin served as 2nd Assistant Surgeon of Company S, 11th Wisconsin Infantry. Afterwards, the family moved to Manitowoc, WI, where Calvin founded The National Bank. He had amassed a sizable fortune but lost everything when the bank failed during a financial panic in 1893. He died shortly thereafter in Michigan.
