Descendants of Captain Arthur Fenner
Arthur Quincy Fenner
[b 20 Dec. 1837 at Chagrin, Lake, OH; d 11 Jan. 1915 at Eustis, Lake, FL] Arthur Quincy Fenner’s father died in 1941, when he was only 3, and his mother died the following year, so he and his siblings were raised by his mother’s sister, Elizabeth “Betsey” Presley, and her husband, William Smith. Arthur m 1st Catherine Loretta Kaldenbaugh [b 11 Feb. 1839 at Zanesville, Muskingum, OH; d 7 Oct. 1908 at West Mentor, Lake, OH], daughter of Joseph Kaldenbaugh, on 15 May 1859 at Willoughby, Lake, OH. Arthur m 2nd Laura Belle Phillips [b ca. 1859 in OH; d 20 July 1935], daughter of Abel Phillips and Margaret Jane Skelly. In a Fenner family book written by Ruby Fenner Page, she offered these details:
These last two children of Lyman Fenner, Arthur Quincy and Newey Fenner, were taken by Uncle William Smith who married a sister Betsy Presley of my grandmother. The older girls stayed with them until old enough to work out as house maids or marry. It was this uncle who lived on Waite Hill and who willed the farm (now owned by John Sherwin) to my father.
Many years have passed and now we see this father married to a young lady who came to Kirtland from Zanesville whose name was Catherine Loretta Kaldinbaugh. This young lady was reared in a Catholic home. Her father, Joseph Kaldinbaugh, was chorister in a Catholic church for many years in Somerset, Perry, Ohio.
While we lived in Akron, Ida & Blanche were married there & lived there many years. At this time we moved back to the old homestead, remaining there until the farm was sold to John Sherwin. After the children had left home, Arthur Quincy and Catherine bought a home in Mentor. Shortly thereafter, Catherine was killed in an accident on October 6, 1908. Arthur then married Belle Ritterhouse and they spent the winters at Eustis, Florida. It was there he died January 11, 1915. He was buried in Mentor Cemetery.
