Albert Isaiah Fenner was born near Union county, Ohio, July 4, 1840, the son of Benjamin and Sarah Fenner, and he was one of a family of 11 children. He resided with his parents until 12 years old, when he came west with a married sister to DeWitt, Ill. One year later his parents also came to DeWitt where they resided two years and then moved to Argenta.
When the war broke out in 1861 he enlisted at Camp Butler in the Tenth Illinois Cavalry, Company L. He was sent from there to Prairie Grove, Ark., under General Steele. He was taken prisoner Feb. 14, 1864, in Louisiana and sent from there to Tyler, Texas. He remained in prison until the close of the war in 1866. While in the army, his parents moved fives miles northwest of Clinton, and both died while he was in the service. He lost two brothers in the army, John and Arthur.
At the close of the war, [Albert] came to his parents’ home northeast of Clinton where his sisters and brothers resided. One year later he was married to Miss Mary Ann Darby of near Springfield. They went to housekeeping on the Fenner homestead northeast of Clinton and he lived there until one year after his wife’s death, Sept. 3, 1903, when he retired and moved to Clinton.
To Mr. and Mrs. Fenner were born five children, all of whom survive except one, Mrs. John Parvin, who died Sept. 1, 1927. Those surviving are Mrs. William Owens, North Linden street; Mrs. Ed Klar, North Elm street; Frank Fenner, South Grant avenue; and Jasper Fenner, northeast of Clinton. There are 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. On March 27, 1907, he was married to Olive G. Stillman of Atlanta who survives him. No children were born to the last union.
